Smáratún remains a functioning family operated farm and consists of 300 hectares of land. Produce such as potatoes, rhubarb and garden greens are cultivated but primarily cattle and sheep are our focus. Animal welfare is a priority and all our livestock enjoy a free range lifestyle. Our sheep are relocated to the highlands during the summer months to graze under the midnight sun.

Inspiring sustainable living
Family
Smáratún farm has been our home for the past three generations and we are opening our home to you. We would like you to come and experience the Icelandic countryside, the quietness, glaciers views, northern lights or the midnight sun alongside our family and friends.
Harvest
Farm to Table is important to us and much of what we produce is directly used for our guests in our onsite restaurant, The Barn. We grow potatoes, turnips, rhubarb, herbs and garden greens in our vegetables gardens. The beef, lamb and pork served is also reared on our farm.
Animals
During summer there are animals all around. We have sheep, cattle, horses, chickens, ducks, goats, Tumi the dog and Púki the cat. During lambing season (May) we offer our guests to join us to the sheep house.
Activities
During the summer months we offer horse riding though our pastures, tree planing to off set your carbon footprint and aid us in creating necessary wind breaks, strolls around the farm to see all the animals. We sell permits for seasonal hunting and fishing. And we can aid in the booking of ATV tours with the near by operator.
